How it's used around the world

  • United States

Popular among Gen Z for ironic compliance — a half-joking 'yes boss' when you're not exactly thrilled about it.

  • Japan

In Japan it tends to be used more sincerely for 'understood' or 'roger that,' with less ironic edge than in Western internet culture.

💡 Did you know?

On Slack and Discord, 🫡 is the go-to reaction for "Understood — on it!" A salute means the order has been received, carrying on the text-era salute emoticon "o7" (the o is a head, the 7 a saluting arm).

🫡

One 🫡 in a work chat can mean 'on it' — or 'sure, boss (eye roll).' The tonal ambiguity is exactly what makes it so popular.
